Updated July 8 (see also the July 7 Congregator) We will be traveling to San Jose from August 8 through 17th to continue our outreach work. Each of us will be packing one suitcase full of donated clothing and toys to distribute to families in the community. We have many items left from last year's very successful clothing and toy drive, but we are still seeking donations of the following:
Donations can be dropped off anytime in the box in the church office or outside the sanctuary on Sunday mornings. Fauntleroy Church has formed a partnership with the Mexican village of San Jose Contreras, a community of about 100 families in the mountains outside Oaxaca in southern Mexico. Fauntleroy Church and San Jose residents are working together to construct a new church, improve classrooms, replace an aging water system, and help families in San Jose. Members of Fauntleroy Church will travel to San Jose again this summer, following up on two previous trips where we laid the foundation of the new church and the foundation of many friendships in San Jose. Toy and Clothing Drive We will hold a donation drive to collect new and gently used toys, clothes, and school supplies to give to families in San Jose. Your donations will help support children and their parents who get by on subsistence farming and struggle to pay for basic necessities. Clothing for children and adults. We'd especially like baseball caps, small purses or bags, and clothes for elementary age children and teens, including skirts, dresses, T-shirts and blouses. No shorts, bathing suits or girls' pants, please, and smaller sizes are best. Small toys like Hot Wheels, stickers, jump ropes; basketballs, soccer balls, tennis balls or rubber balls; stuffed animals; plastic figures, costume jewelry, picture books in Spanish, sidewalk chalk, small dolls, building toys, musical instruments or games. Nothing that requires batteries, please. School supplies including notebook paper, markers, pencils, crayons, folders, and maps (in Spanish if possible). Suitcases that may be old but are sturdy to take all your generous donations with us. Muchas Gracias Amigos!
