Fauntleroy Church Accompanist
Reports to
The Accompanist reports directly to the Music Director, with executive supervision by the Senior Minister as head of staff.
Wage and Hours
$27/hour, 9 hours per week. Sunday mornings and Thursday evenings (or an alternative practice evening as arranged by the Music Director) are required. The Accompanist’s presence for three Christmas Eve services, Holy Week services, and other special services and music events is expected. Accompaniment at occasional memorials and weddings is also expected, with coordinated scheduling. An additional stipend will be provided for memorials and weddings.

Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and versatile Accompanist to support the Music Program of Fauntleroy Church. The ideal candidate will be proficient in both piano and guitar, comfortable with a wide range of sacred and secular music from many genres, and able to collaborate with the Music Director, clergy, vocalists, and other musicians in a dynamic and affirming environment.
Required Skills:
Accomplished collaborative and solo pianist
Proficiency in guitar is preferred, but not required
Experience as a collaborative pianist with choirs preferred, but not required
High level of sight-reading ability for both traditional sheet music and Lead Sheet chordal sheet music
Maintain a flexible and responsive approach to musical leadership in a diverse and evolving worship context
Ability to improvise basic tunes/melodies in varying styles
Approach schedule demands strategically and cooperatively, navigating (within reason) the availability of singers/instrumentalists, and what will best support the plans and wider vision of worship seasons and services

A willingness to try new things and an excitement about creative music making opportunities
Assigned Duties:
Play for Sunday worship and pre-worship rehearsal
Play for Thursday choir practices and other rehearsals as needed
Rehearse with solo vocalists, small groups, instruments and other special music with aid from the Music Director
Play for weddings, funerals and other special services and events as requested (with added stipend for these events)
Background Requirements:
A background check is required. Abuse prevention training and other trainings may be required as well.
