The United Church of Christ (UCC)

Fauntleroy Church is a member congregation in the United Church of Christ denomination, which consists of over 900,000 people in UCC churches across the United States.

The United Church of Christ is a non-hierarchical, bottom-up denomination that consists of local churches, conferences of churches (we’re in the Pacific Northwest Conference of the UCC), a national church body based out of Cleveland, Ohio, and many UCC missional organizations.

We are one of the oldest denominations in the United States as well as one of the youngest, having evolved from five different “grandparent” traditions (Congregational, Christian, Reformed, Evangelical, and Afro-Christian churches) that united in 1957, with the motto: “In essentials unity; in nonessentials, diversity; in all things, charity.” Fauntleroy Church was Congregational before evolving into a UCC congregation.

UCC churches walk in covenant together, just as God walks with humanity.  You can feel the pull of covenant directly in many ways, from our willingness to explore different ways to worship as one body to our respect for the variety of beliefs brought to faith-formation classes.  At the national level, resolutions on justice issues speak to local conferences and churches, not for us, as they invite us into conversation and bold work toward a just world.

While visiting UCC churches across the U.S. can yield different experiences, Fauntleroy Church is closely aligned with the work and vision of our conference and national denomination.  To learn more about the United Church of Christ (and thus, us), please visit ucc.org.
