Bronwyn Edwards joined the staff of Fauntleroy Church in February 2008 and has built a reputation over the past 8+ years as a musical catalyst, encouraging music lovers of all ages from church and local community to pursue their musical passions, regardless of their skill levels. Bron encourages and nurtures vocalists, instrumentalists and lyricists to participate in church worship, church events, community concerts, musicals and other local events whenever musical opportunities present themselves. As a composer, teacher, music director and mentor, she has forged an energetic and inclusive music program including children's music and handbells.
Born in Australia, Bron has lived in West Seattle since 1987. Her passion for writing lyrics and music has blossomed during her tenure at Fauntleroy Church. In 2010 she directed and co-wrote the musical "Age Only Matters if You're Cheese" with playwright and church member Yvonne Belshaw, performed by a cast of talented actors and singers from the church community. In 2011 she composed the "Wonder Cantata" which was performed by the Chancel Choir at their annual Christmas concert. In 2014, through her church connections, Bron was commissioned to write the music for the Vashon Island Chorale's 25th anniversary concert, which was premiered in Seattle's Benaroya Hall. Bron has composed and arranged many pieces of music for the Chancel Choir, which she directs from September to June. A non-audition choir of 30+ singers, the Chancel Choir includes talented soloists and instrumentalists, as well as beginner-level singers. All are welcome. Rehearsals take place on Thursday evenings at 7:30 pm in the Sanctuary.
During the Fall season, the Bell choir rehearses at 6:30 pm in the Sanctuary on Thursday evenings prior to choir rehearsals. All bell-ringers are welcome, from beginner to advanced level. For the children, Rainbow Bells are being introduced during the Fall quarter of 2016.
The Fauntleroy Chancel Choir has performed its annual Christmas concert with the Peace Lutheran Choir over the past couple of years. Reaching out into our local musical community, Bron's leadership has opened doors to a greater choral experience that has engaged and delighted broader audiences in West Seattle. Singing with a larger group has been very fulfilling for the choristers, bringing greater vocal power together with a joyous experience. We look forward to more joint choir performances. Bron is also the Artistic Director of the South Seattle College Community Choir, and hopes to bring her two choirs together for a concert performance in 2017.
As a performing pianist, Bron played solo piano in the main terminal of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport for the two weeks prior to Christmas from 2007 to 2015. She has retired in 2016 to spend more time composing music and visiting family in Australia. A veteran in the recording studio, she has released 7 CDs, as well as producing music recordings for others, including church members who are singers and pianists. Bron has delighted in mentoring young musicians from the church. Many of them have been her piano students. She has also coached vocalists, singer-dancers, actors, and other young performers, helping them to nurture their talents in church talent shows.
Singers and instrumentalists are warmly welcomed at Fauntleroy Church.
