Weekly Announcements August 30

CHILDCARE is available for infants thru 3-year-olds. Our nursery is on the 4th floor. One of our greeters or ushers would be very happy to direct you if this is your first time at the church.

SUNDAY SCHOOL: Thanks to our Godly Play teacher, Carol, and to our volunteers Sue, Carolyn, Tyler for wondering with our children about whether there is anything that can contain God. The Sunday School time starts with all kids together listening to a Godly Play story and then we split out into PreK-2nd grade and 3rd-5th grade classes to dive deeper into our wondering.

PASS THE PEW PADS PLEASE: Please pass the pew pad to those sitting next to you, adding your names to let us know you are worshiping with us today. The pads are hanging from hooks on the pew backs, near the center aisle. In addition to names (which we hope all will write down), please add your contact information if you are new to us. If someone sits down in your pew after the pads have been passed, please pass them down again.

AUG. 29 CELEBRATION OF THE LIFE OF STARKE SHELBY: Jane Leonard and Evan would be honored to have you share in a time of remembering and honoring their beloved Starke, devoted husband and father and longtime church member, at a celebration of life on Aug. 29 at 2PM. A reception will be held in Fellowship Hall following the service. The family so appreciates all the love and support they have received since Starke’s death. It has been a healing balm.

MEMORIAL SERVICES IN OCTOBER: Please save October 10 at 11am for Nancy Barker’s memorial service and October 31 at 1pm for Sandie Snead’s memorial service. Receptions will follow both services.

YOUTH GROUP OVERNIGHT: Youth entering grades 6 – 12 are invited to the church for an overnight lock-in on August 28th at 8pm. Pick up is August 29th at 8am. This is a favorite annual activity that includes games, worship, movies, and breakfast in the morning. It’s a great way to start the new school year: fun and fellowship. Feel free to invite a friend, too! If you would like to volunteer or RSVP, or have general questions, please email Tyler Torres at tyler@fauntleroyucc.org.

SALE SIGN-UPS & DONATION DELIVERIES: Check out the big sign-up board in the narthex during coffee hour to see the many options for volunteering before, during, or after our 2nd Time Sale Sept. 18-20. A sign-up sheet is also there to contribute something special for the accompanying bake sale. We will set up tables in Fellowship Hall after worship on Sept. 6, then start processing donations that have been in storage. We will welcome more donations Sept. 9 – 11 and 13-14. Find the list of what we cannot accept, regardless of condition, at fauntleroyucc.org/2nd-time-sale or call the church office.

J.O.Y. (JUST OLDER YOUTH), TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 10:00-11:30AM: Join this new fellowship group for ALL seniors in Fellowship Hall at their first monthly get-together. Come and contribute your ideas as the group takes shape! We’ll also learn with David Turner, our own Seattle Art Museum docent, as he presents an entertaining talk about famous and favorite art. In the coming months, activities and times will vary.

PASTOR KARYN’S SABBATICAL: Pastor Karyn will be taking a sabbatical September 1 through November 28. Join us for worship on August 30, when we bless her on her way into this time of sabbath renewal. Please read the church newsletter for more details about her sabbatical.

LUNCH & LEARN – ONLINE EXODUS BIBLE STUDY: We are moving into the Book of Exodus in worship, digging into the most important, foundational Biblical story in Judaism — the story of the exodus. This story was foundational to Jesus' faith and ministry, and it has shaped the worldview of many Christian liberation theologians the world over since. The study will be online and during the lunch hour (12-1). Those near and far are invited to participate. There is no need to sign up. Simply join by Zoom link each Wednesday, beginning September 2 and ending October 21. Look for the link in last week’s newsletter.

THERE’S ROOM FOR YOU IN THE CHOIR! If you like what you hear this morning and you like to sing, we’d love to have you join us in the choir. This no-audition choir meets weekly on Thursdays from 7:30-9:00pm. Our first rehearsal of the year will take place on September 3. Email our music director, Zach Fitzgerald (zach@fauntleroyucc.org), for a free voice lesson or with any questions.

WELCOME TABLE - SEPTEMBER 5: On a monthly basis, Fauntleroy Church and friends come together in support of those neighbors in White Center who are experiencing hunger and hardship. We provide and serve hot, nourishing meals and dispense essential supplies to folks who are lacking necessities. We are scheduled to do this next on September 5 (not our typical week.) Please plan to help on that day, and sign up using the link published in next week’s worship bulletin and in the 8/31 newsletter.

ALL-CHURCH POTLUCK/PICNIC: Join us after worship on September 13 for our annual potluck/picnic! The Parish Life Ministry will provide pulled pork sandwiches, veggie burgers, chips, and beverages. You are asked to bring something to share and to lend a hand, if you can. Volunteers can sign up to help with setup, the potluck, or cleanup at the Get Involved Table, located in the Narthex. Look for the event poster in last week’s newsletter!

BACKPACK BLESSING ON SEPT. 13!  Backpacks and school bags are the first sign of seasons changing as new adventures in learning begin! In the Sept. 13 worship, we’d like to fill your backpacks with blessings of love, peace, and kindness before other things take up all the room!  So, kids and kids-at-heart, bring your backpack, book bags—and even your briefcases or diaper bags—to church and during the Time with Children on Sept. 13, we’ll say thanks to God for every opportunity for curiosity, wisdom, fun, and friendship that will fill the days ahead.

INFORMATIONAL EVENT, SEPTEMBER 26: Are you considering joining Fauntleroy Church as a member or would just like to learn more about the congregation while making connections with others? Come “taste and see” what we’re all about! The next “Taste & See” informational event will take place on Saturday, September 26, from 9-11am. We will share the history of the UCC and of Fauntleroy Church, talk about how we govern ourselves, and have brunch together while learning about the many ways people get involved in the life of this church. Please contact Sarah Ackers (sarah.ackers@fauntleroyucc.org) by September 20 if you would like to participate. Childcare can be provided upon early request.

LGBTQIA2S+ POTLUCK: RESCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 3:  Earlier this year, we asked the question “What interests do you have, and what groups would you be interested in seeing at Fauntleroy UCC?” Several people expressed a desire for gatherings for those in the LGBTQIA2S+ community. A potluck seems like the right starting place for building community through fellowship. Sarah Ackers, our volunteer and engagement coordinator, will host the first potluck at the church on October 3, from 5-7pm. If you plan on attending this potluck, please RSVP to Sarah (sarah.ackers@fauntleroyucc.org) so that she can prepare the space for all who want to participate.

PRAYER CHAIN REQUESTS: If you would like to have someone added to the prayer chain, you can fill out the Prayer Request card found in the pews on Sunday mornings, or email  FauntleroyPrayerChain@gmail.com or go to the church website, www.fauntleroyucc.org, and select “Prayer Requests” from the menu in the top right corner. Fill in the simple form with your prayer. Your information is always kept confidential unless you request otherwise.
