CHILDCARE is available for infants thru 3 year olds. Our nursery is on the 4th floor. One of our greeters or ushers would be very happy to direct you if this is your first time at the church.
OUR JULY THROUGH SEPTEMBER OFFERING RECIPIENT ORGANIZATION
The Lavender Rights Project is a Black Trans feminist organization that works at the intersection of racial justice and LGBTQ+ liberation through policy advocacy, community organizing, and wrap-around health and housing support. They want to build a world where Black and gender diverse communities can thrive. We at Fauntleroy Church hope for that world, too! Here are the ways to participate in this offering today:
· Simply place cash in the offering plate.
· If you desire privacy, put cash inside one of the envelopes marked “Lavender Rights Project” You should find these envelopes in the pew backs. If you leave the envelope unsealed, we’ll reuse it.
· Put a check in the offering plate with “Lavender Rights Project” on the memo line.
· Put a check inside a “Lavender Rights Project” envelope with or without that memo line completed (the envelope itself will now indicate your intent).
· You can also donate online at www.fauntleroyucc.org looking for the LAVENDER RIGHTS PROJECT box/button.
Any checks with incomplete memo lines that are also not inside a “Lavender Rights Project” envelope will be assumed intended for the church’s operating budget (but we prefer you indicating your intent on the memo line so we make sure your offering goes where you want it to go!) Thank you for all the ways you give, including with your annual pledges. You sustain our church, our collective impact, and our voice in this world.
YOUTH GROUP TONIGHT: Youth in grades 6-12 are invited to gather from 5:00-7:30. Bring $6 to contribute to dinner expenses.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR ALL-CHURCH POTLUCK/PICNIC: Join us after worship on September 13 for our annual potluck/picnic! The Parish Life Ministry will provide pulled pork sandwiches, veggie burgers, chips, and beverages. You are asked to bring something to share and to lend a hand, if you can. Volunteers, please sign up to help with setup, the potluck, or cleanup at the Get Involved Table, located in the Narthex. Look for the event poster in tomorrow’s newsletter for suggestions about what and how much to bring to the potluck.
FAUNTLEROY FLEDGERS FALL OUTING: Whether you are an avid bird watcher, interested in learning or just enjoy observing the wonders of the natural world, you are welcome at the newly formed bird watching group, the Fauntleroy Fledgers! The next outing is on 10/3 at 9:30 am at Lincoln Park (meet at waterfront picnic shelter closest to ADA parking). We will explore along the paved waterfront trail or hike in the wooded area depending on interests of the group.
THE LATEST ABOUT OUR 2ND TIME SALE: Many opportunities to help pull off another successful 2nd Time Sale on Sept. 18-20 are still available! Just visit the sign-up area in the narthex during coffee hour or call the church office to volunteer. They now include a 1 pm work party on Sunday, Sept. 13, to set up tables in the narthex and move books and furniture there.
We will set up tables in Fellowship Hall after worship today, so stay a few minutes if you can. Then on Tuesday, Sept. 8, volunteers are needed at 9 am in our parking lot to unload stored merchandise, then pick up more from three locations. The crew will welcome direct donations in Fellowship Hall Sept. 9-11 (10 am-7 pm), Sunday, Sept. 13 (1-3 pm), and Monday, Sept. 14 (10 am-7 pm), after which no more will be accepted. The list of what we cannot accept, regardless of condition, is at fauntleroyucc.org/2nd-time-sale or call the church office.
LUNCH & LEARN – ONLINE EXODUS BIBLE STUDY: We have moved into the Book of Exodus in worship, digging into the most important, foundational Biblical story in Judaism — the story of the Hebrew’s exodus from Egypt. This story was foundational to Jesus' faith and ministry, and it has shaped the worldview of many Christian liberation theologians the world over since. The study will be online and during the lunch hour (12-1). Those near and far are invited to participate. There is no need to sign up. Simply join each Wednesday by Zoom link provided in the e-newsletter. The online gatherings began on September 2 and end October 21. Not receiving Monday newsletters? Clearly write your email address on the sign-in pew pads and indicate that you’d like to be added to the church email list.
BACKPACK BLESSING ON SEPT. 13! Backpacks and school bags are the first sign of seasons changing as new adventures in learning begin! In the Sept. 13 worship, we’d like to fill your backpacks with blessings of love, peace, and kindness before other things take up all the room! So, kids and kids-at-heart, bring your backpack, book bags—and even your briefcases or diaper bags—to church, and during the Time with Children on Sept. 13, we’ll say thanks to God for every opportunity for curiosity, wisdom, fun, and friendship that will fill the days ahead.
INFORMATIONAL EVENT, SEPTEMBER 26: Are you considering joining Fauntleroy Church as a member or would just like to learn more about the congregation while making connections with others? Come “taste and see” what we’re all about! The next “Taste & See” informational event will take place on Saturday, September 26, from 9-11am. We will share the history of the UCC and of Fauntleroy Church, talk about how we govern ourselves, and have brunch together while learning about the many ways people get involved in the life of this church. LGBTQIA2S+ POTLUCK ON OCTOBER 3: Sarah Ackers, our volunteer and engagement coordinator, will host the first LGBTQIA2S+ potluck at the church on October 3, from 5-7pm. If you plan on attending this potluck, please RSVP to Sarah (sarah.ackers@fauntleroyucc.org) so that space is prepared for all who want to participate.
