Weekly Announcements July 12
CHILDCARE is available for infants thru 3-year-olds. Our nursery is on the 4th floor. One of our greeters or ushers would be very happy to direct you if this is your first time at the church.
SUNDAY SCHOOL: Thanks to our Lead Teacher, Carol, and to our volunteers Ryan, Brian and Ella for wondering with our children about what it means to be blessed and to be a blessing.
PASS THE PEW PADS PLEASE: Please pass the pew pad to those sitting next to you, adding your names to let us know you are worshiping with us today. The pads are hanging from hooks on the pew backs, near the center aisle. In addition to names (which we hope all will write down), please add your contact information if you are new to us. If someone sits down in your pew after the pads have been passed, please pass them down again.
WELCOME BACK, REV. DR. RON PATTERSON! We are so pleased Rev. Ron Patterson is joining us today as our guest preacher. We had the joy of getting to know Rev. Patterson and his wife Charnley when he preached during Pastor Leah’s sabbatical. It’s so good to welcome back good friends. Before his retirement in 2016, Rev. Dr. Ron Patterson served as Senior Minister of Naples United Church of Christ in Naples, Florida, where he is Pastor Emeritus. He served congregations in Ohio, Long Island and New York City before moving to Naples. He currently shares his gifts alongside those of Pastor Leah on the Board of the Pacific Northwest Conference of the United Church of Christ and is a former Board member of the National United Church of Christ, where he stays connected as a consultant in Development. His special interests include music and the arts, weaving, reading, writing and travel. He and Charnley are members of Fox Island UCC.
LAVENDER RIGHTS PROJECT – OUR JULY THROUGH SEPTEMBER OFFERING FOCUS: To keep the love flowing and to extend the joy of PRIDE, starting July 1 and through September, the Church Council has proposed that our Sunday plate offerings go to the Lavender Rights Project. The Lavender Rights Project is a Black Trans feminist organization committed to dismantling oppressive systems that disproportionately harm Black communities. Like many of the organization we have come alongside, the Lavendar Rights Project believes that those most impacted by injustice are the architects of liberation, so the organization, based here in Seattle, is led by Black and Trans persons who work at the intersection of racial justice and LGBTQ+ liberation through policy advocacy, community organizing, and wrap-around health and housing support. They want to build a world where Black and gender diverse communities can thrive. We at Fauntleroy Church hope for that world, too! So, we hope you'll continue your generous giving as we try to live into that vision and to live out our love louder and louder beyond our walls.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL IS NEXT SUNDAY! Sunday, July 19th is National Ice Cream Day. Please join the Parish Life Ministry after church and help us celebrate by enjoying an Ice Cream Sunday. Ice Cream (also a dairy free option) and a variety of toppings will be available. It’s a fun and refreshing event! If you are interested in helping with set up before church, helping to scoop ice cream or helping with clean up contact Carolyn Tucker at deanocarolyn@gmail.com or sign up at the Get Involved Table in the Narthex.
JULY 18th WELCOME TABLE HELP NEEDED! On a monthly basis, Fauntleroy Church and friends come together in support of those neighbors in White Center who are experiencing hunger and hardship. We put principles into practice to provide and serve hot, nourishing meals and dispense essential supplies to folks who are lacking necessities – and we would love for you to join us on July 18th. Also feel free to bring personal supplies such as clothes and/or hygiene supplies. No special skills are needed—just a caring heart and a bit of your time. It’s a simple but powerful way to show up for our community. AND you shall receive warm thanks, comradeship, and a wonderful sense of having done good in the world as you launch your weekend. Need help with drop offs or have questions? Contact Nancy Roberts-Brown and Lisa Faustino at welcometablehtf@gmail.com. Sign up using the link in tomorrow’s newsletter.
WELCOME TABLE NEEDS PANTRY FOOD! We’ve learned that the Food Pantry table at the White Center Welcome Table has been very low on supplies. These extra canned and shelf stable grocery items are available to help people through the rest of the week after the Saturday lunch. Can you help make the table more abundant? There are two ways to give: Drop donations off at the Welcome Table next Saturday by 11am, or from now until July 17, we will be collecting canned and shelf stable food here at the church and we’ll get them there for you. You’ll find a box for donations near the sanctuary doors. (BE SURE TO CHECK EXPIRATION DATES BEFORE YOU DONATE!) Thanks for helping our food insecure neighbors in their time of need!
SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE: Our annual school-supply drive kicks off today to narrow the gap between what area public schools can afford and what students need. Posters in the narthex itemize high-priority items and you can take home that list from the stand by the sanctuary door. Donation boxes will be in the narthex and church/Y lobby through Aug. 2. Cash donations are also welcome in the plate or by clicking the link in tomorrow’s newsletter.
2ND TIME SALE DONATIONS: Donations of almost anything that’s clean, complete, and in working order are welcome as we prepare for our big 2nd Time Sale in mid-September. The list of what we do not take, regardless of condition, is at fauntleroyucc.org/2nd-time-sale. If you cannot hold onto your items until Labor Day, contact the church office about getting them into storage.
SAVE THE DATE FOR BLUES SUNDAY! WHY SO BLUE?? It may say Blues Sunday, but the only thing you'll be feeling is JOY! Sunday, August 16th, come celebrate Blues Sunday at Fauntleroy, a special worship that centers gospel and blues inspired music from many of our talented choir members with Zach Fitzgerald directing.
FAUNTLEROY ART SHOW: Applications are being accepted through Sept. 4 for the annual Fauntleroy Art Show on Nov. 13-15. Local artists and artistic crafters working in any medium are welcome to apply by Sept. 4. Details and the application form are at fauntleroyartshow.com.
SUMMER NEWSLETTER SCHEDULE: The newsletter will be published with less frequency this summer. Expect it to be published on the following dates: 7/27, 8/10, 8/17, and 8/31.
PRAYER CHAIN REQUESTS: If you would like to have someone added to the prayer chain, you can fill out the Prayer Request card found in the pews on Sunday mornings, or email FauntleroyPrayerChain@gmail.com or go to the church website, www.fauntleroyucc.org, and select “Prayer Requests” from the menu in the top right corner. Fill in the simple form with your prayer. Your information is always kept confidential unless you request otherwise.
